Shimmering Light Farm is a cooperative garden serving 20-30 families
per year in South Bristol, NY. We plan, plant, cultivate, harvest and
celebrate a cornicopia of organic vegetables together every Saturday
from April through November each season. In addition to produce and
some fruit, we raise free range, organic laying hens for egg
production and bees for organic honey.
We are currently having a great growing season! We have been
harvesting everything from eggplant and melons to cabbage and
carrots. Our garlic, which we planted with cloves from last year's
garden, was a huge success. Our dried beans, which we have not yet
harvested, but which were also planted with seeds from last year's
garden, have produced a large crop. Members are eagerly awaiting the
popcorn and winter squash, which will not be long in coming.
In addition to our community garden, we also have a small CSA
(community supported agriculture) this season. Our CSA members visit
the farm every Wednesday to pick up their vegetables, the same
vegetables that we harvest on Saturdays with community garden
members. There is no work involved with the CSA, and the cost is
more expensive, but it is another way for people to experience the
farm and benefit from fresh, healthy produce.
In bittersweet news, our farmers of the last three years, Mike Wilcox
and Deborah Muntner, are purchasing their own farm and moving on. We
are blessed by all of their many contributions and feel honored to
have helped them discover their farming journey.
We are now seeking a new farmer(s). Follow this link for all the details!
